The Wonder 500™ Certified Product Details
The production of copper began at the start of the 17th century. Even today, approximately 95% of all Japanese copperware production takes place in Takaoka City. Having created a variety of copper goods over the years, Takaoka Douki is known for the characteristic color variations and patinas, as many as 20 to 30, that it produces using a combination of techniques and chemicals. Based on the trial and errors of predecessors and its own research, it has developed a method for coloring copper boards using rollers in dimensions as small as 1 meter or less. The tone series was made using this very technique. The series includes a conical shaped copper hand mirror with leather strap, a tray, and an ice pail, each available in 6 varying shades. You’re sure to develop a special affinity to these copper items as you watch them mature beautifully over time and with use. These pieces are not only practical but attractive for their artistic flair as well.
