Hagi Shuhai (Japanese wine cup)

Drinking Vessels (Lipped Bowls/Sake Bottles/Sake Cups)
Hagi Shuhai is a wine cup created by an artisan of Hagi pottery, an art form that dates back to the Azuchi-Momoyama Period (1573–1603). Until now, it was considered impossible to create wine cups and similar stemmed drinking ware seamlessly as a single piece in ceramics. The artisan, Takeshi of the Yamato Web Gallery, has successfully developed a technology for forming such ware as a single piece, patenting it in 2015. The product lineup of the company features a rich variety of designs, from simple rustic items in the style of the original Hagi pottery, to contemporary works in bright and fresh colors, and can be enjoyed as part of the interior. The seamless design guarantees strength and durability. Japanese sake has gained popularity around the world, but overseas it is served mainly in wine glasses. The flavor of sake, however, changes dramatically depending on the drinking ware. Ceramic cups enrich and soften it, highlighting new aspects of its appeal.
